HARD Uganda

who we are

We’re a refugee-led nonprofit empowering communities and transforming lives.

Humanitarian Action for Refugee and Rural Communities’ Development (HARD Uganda) is a nonprofit, women and youth refugee-led organization founded on 6 November 2020 by refugees and Ugandan women and young people in Rhino Camp Extension, Omugo.

HARD Uganda exists to address injustice and inequality affecting women, children, young people and persons with disabilities. We work with communities to strengthen resilience, expand opportunity and create environments where dignity, fairness and inclusion are protected.

Rooted in the communities we serve, we believe that lasting change begins when people have the opportunity, resources and support to shape their own futures. Our approach places community voices, local knowledge and lived experiences at the centre of everything we do. We recognise refugees and host communities not simply as recipients of assistance, but as leaders, innovators and partners with the capacity to create meaningful and lasting solutions.

Through our work in education, child protection, women and youth empowerment, livelihoods, peacebuilding and community wellbeing, we support individuals and families to overcome barriers, develop their potential and build stronger, more inclusive communities. We are particularly committed to creating safe spaces where women, children and young people can participate, exercise their rights and influence decisions that affect their lives.
